Fedora 10 on a Gateway M7305u Laptop Well, who knows what those numbers and letters stand for, but here it is running Fedora 10 off of the live cd. I got this not so little beauty a couple of days before Christmas, and promptly tried to run a couple of flavors of Linux to avoid having to even fool around with Vista. [...]

Redux - Why Ditch OS X for Linux? Sure to start a flame war, but here are my reasons. Your mileage may vary.
1. Linux is faster. My experience with the two operating systems on this Intel based Mini (Yes, I did mention that before) is that Linux, of the Ubuntu flavor, is much faster. I spend less time waiting for things to happen.
2. [...]

Praise for Virtual Bridges In the last week or so, my computer world has been a mess. Installs, re-installs, old hardware, new hardware, get out the shoehorn type of stuff. In all that excitement, The Mac Mini has been reconfigured as an Ubuntu 8.04 LTS machine once again.
I have to say, it is SO nice. But since I have [...]

Mac Mini, Linux, and the Project List Well, things change. It’s a fact of life for sure, and mine is no different. I was all set to sell the Mini on eBay. Puppy Linux on a Compaq Presario 6000 My latest foray into the “lite” Linux world takes me back in time, to my oldest working system tucked away in the basement. It’s a Compaq Presario 6000, with an AMD Athlon Processor, 512MB of RAM, and a 40 GB Western Digital HD.
Back in the day, this was a decent machine. I purchased two very [...]

Option One - Recycled and free (almost)
If you have an older computer [...]

Puppy Linux on an IBM R31 Laptop - Redux Well, I think I have finally found the perfect OS for my old IBM R31 laptop. I have been playing with Puppy Linux for a while now, and have found it to be both capable and fast. So far, it has everything I need, and makes an excellent choice for resurrecting older hardware. This particular [...]

Puppylinux on a Mac Mini When the windchill is hovering around zero (degrees F), there is not much to do around here except play with Linux distros. Today’s choice is Puppylinux 4.1, available at www.puppylinux.org.
Puppy is a small distro, about 95MB in size. After downloading it, burning it to a cd, and booting from the CD, I was asked a [...]

Posting using Blogger & Ubuntu This is a test post. I have now configured my IBM R31Laptop to run Linux (Ubuntu 8.04 LTS flavored) and have installed all of my favorite apps. Blogger is a new one for me, so I thought I’d try it to see how it works with WordPress.
Another app I’d like to mention is “Audacious”. It [...]
